Axel's take on ICON Park & Convention Center: #3 of 12 in Orlando, 6.9/10
The best all-round I-Drive base for dinners, entertainment and conventions. Good transport links, strong hotels and an appealing evening routine outweigh weaker value and limited doorstep convenience across this long corridor.
International Drive between ICON Park, Pointe Orlando and the convention campus offers an easy evening routine: eat, wander between attractions and find somewhere for a drink without committing to another major journey. It suits mixed itineraries particularly well, with both family entertainment and adult nights out along the same corridor.
Do not treat ICON Park and every convention entrance as interchangeable addresses. The campus is large, and the most convenient end depends on your event building. Traffic, heat and road crossings also limit longer walks. Stay here for variety and convention business; skip it if quiet streets or walking to Disney and Universal are essential.
- Best for: first-time visitors, business trips and conventions, nightlife
- Skip it if: You need peaceful evenings; Your priority is walking to a major theme park
- Getting around: I-RIDE Red/Green and LYNX 8/42 serve I-Drive; MCO 42 reaches the corridor, while 311 serves Destination Parkway for onward connections; SFB requires road transport.
- After dark: ICON Park and Pointe Orlando keep evenings active; choose your immediate street carefully if restaurant and entertainment noise bothers you.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $229 a night · usually 10% under the public rate

How to choose
- Choose Hilton Orlando if you want convention access plus a lazy river, waterslide and refreshed rooms for family downtime.
- Choose Vacation Vista if three en-suite bedrooms and a kitchen matter more than hotel service; everyone must manage stairs.
- Choose Mai Hana Hotel & Suites if you want one of the cheapest restaurant-walkable bases and can tolerate motel-style rooms and nighttime noise.
What paying more buys
Cheaper Mai Hana supplies breakfast and a pool, while Rosen Plaza adds full-service comfort and a convention skybridge. Hilton Orlando costs more but buys refreshed rooms and a lazy river. Hyatt Regency Orlando is pricier still, yet its pool closure weakens the upgrade for families; park-focused travelers may gain little from spending more. Typical rates with Axel here run from $84 a night at Mai Hana Hotel & Suites to $436 at Hyatt Regency Orlando (last 30 days).
