Axel's take: 7.8/10

Good family space and plenty to do, but room quality and extras need scrutiny. a large, mid-range timeshare resort with apartment-style villas, scored for what it is.

Westgate Lakes is a sprawling, mid-range timeshare resort, not a polished luxury hotel despite its four-star listing. We'd consider it for families wanting apartment-style space and plenty of pool time between Orlando park days. Expedia's overall rating is strong, and recent guests frequently praise clean rooms and friendly staff; Tripadvisor guests also highlight spacious villas and good family value. Kitchens or kitchenettes make longer stays practical.

The trade-off is consistency: recent Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly describe dated rooms, maintenance issues and noise, alongside much happier reports. A resort fee applies, and Treasure Cove Water Park admission is excluded from most stays. Timeshare presentations also draw complaints, so check whether your booking requires one. We'd skip it for a quiet, walkable getaway or reliably upscale service.

• Best for: families wanting villa space; longer, self-catering stays; theme-park trips with pool days

• Watch out for: uneven room condition and noise; resort fee and usually extra water-park admission; timeshare presentation requirements on some bookings

• Location: Useful for Orlando attractions by car; off-site dining and sightseeing generally require transport.

• Rooms: Studios through four-bedroom villas; kitchens vary by category, and upkeep receives mixed reports.

• Cleanliness: Strong Expedia cleanliness ratings and recent praise, tempered by repeated Tripadvisor housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Friendly staff earn frequent praise, but complaint handling and timeshare presentations are less consistent.

• Amenities: Seven outdoor pools, Treasure Cove Water Park, spa, gym, mini golf and on-site dining.

• Fees and surprises: Resort fee and deposit apply; most stays exclude water-park admission, and checkout is 10 a.m.
