Axel's take on Le Port: #3 of 6 in Nice, 8.1/10
Stay for neighborhood dining and nightlife, with the airport tram close by. Dining, harbor character, direct airport trams and better value put Le Port third; hotels rate below the leading two areas.
Stay here if dinner and drinks are a major part of the trip. Around Place du Pin and Rue Bonaparte, restaurant terraces and LGBTQ+-friendly nightlife sit a short walk from the harbor, Place Garibaldi and the Old Town. The waterfront gives the neighborhood its identity; OcéaNice also makes it useful for events held at the port.
The trade-offs are late terrace noise and a longer walk to the main beaches and Nice-Ville. MAMAC remains closed for renovation, so do not choose Garibaldi expecting that museum on your doorstep. Skip the liveliest streets if you have early-to-bed children or want reliably quiet nights.
- Best for: nightlife, food lovers, LGBTQ+ travelers
- Skip it if: You need reliably quiet nights; You want immediate access to the main beachfront
- Getting around: T2/T3 serve Port Lympia and Garibaldi–Le Château, with T1 at Garibaldi; walk to Old Town, or roughly 15–20 minutes toward Nice-Riquier for coastal trains; NCE is direct on T2.
- After dark: Rue Bonaparte and Place du Pin are evening destinations, not quiet backstreets; expect terrace chatter and people staying out late.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $89 a night · usually 7% under the public rate

Where to look in Le Port
- Place du Pin. Choose this restaurant-and-bar pocket for evenings out, not reliably quiet nights above the terraces. Hotels here: ibis Styles Nice Vieux Port.
- Nice-Riquier station. Favor this residential side for Riviera train trips; harbor evenings and Old Town sightseeing involve a walk. Hotels here: Mama Shelter Nice, easyHotel Nice Old Town, Aparthotel Adagio Nice Centre.
- Place Garibaldi and Boulevard Risso. Start around Garibaldi for restaurants, tram connections and Old Town access without staying deep in its lanes. Hotels here: Hotel Esprit d'Azur, Aparthotel Adagio Access Nice Garibaldi.
How to choose
- Choose Hotel Esprit d'Azur if welcoming staff and sightseeing advice matter most; book a courtyard-facing superior room for quieter nights.
- Choose Mama Shelter Nice if you want lively bars, bold design and a seasonal rooftop pool rather than a purely practical base.
- Choose NH Nice if your family wants more room space and a summer pool, and is happy using trams.
What paying more buys
Appart'City Classic Nice is the cheaper self-catering option, but worn furnishings and uneven cleaning are substantial compromises. Hotel Esprit d'Azur costs more while remaining cheaper than most here, with consistently praised cleanliness and service. NH Nice adds room space and a seasonal rooftop pool; that further step is unnecessary if you will be out all day. Typical rates with Axel here run from $52 a night at Appart'City Classic Nice to $111 at ibis Styles Nice Vieux Port (last 30 days).
