#8 of 9 hotels in Place Masséna & Jean Médecin by Axel's take. Place Masséna & Jean Médecin is #1 of 6 places to stay in Nice. The best hotels in Place Masséna & Jean Médecin, ranked · Where to stay in Nice

Axel's take: 7.8/10

A stylish central base with worthwhile pools, but uneven five-star service. a design-led five-star city hotel with a spa in central Nice, scored for what it is.

Boscolo is a design-led five-star city hotel behind a Belle Époque façade, with white-on-white rooms rather than traditional Riviera interiors. It’s a good pick for exploring Nice on foot while keeping a spa and rooftop pool close at hand. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise comfortable beds, cleanliness and helpful staff; the rooftop was refreshed for 2026.

The reservation is consistency, not a shortage of facilities. Recent Tripadvisor guests repeatedly describe slow service, unanswered requests and patchy replenishment of room supplies, alongside plenty of positive stays elsewhere. Some room layouts also sacrifice bathroom privacy. The rooftop pool is small and seasonal, and the advertised private beach is a paid arrangement at nearby Ruhl, not an on-site beach. We’d skip it if seamless luxury service or a conventional enclosed bathroom is essential.

  • Best for: couples combining sightseeing and spa time; travelers who prefer bold contemporary interiors; car-free Nice city breaks

  • Watch out for: inconsistent service and room-supply replenishment; limited bathroom privacy in some rooms; small seasonal rooftop pool

  • Location: Central and walkable, close to Jean Médecin tram stops and roughly ten minutes from the promenade and Old Town.

  • Rooms: Generally spacious, with comfortable beds; the all-white décor and unconventional bathroom layouts divide opinion.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia outweigh scattered negative reports.

  • Service: Many guests praise friendly staff, but repeated recent accounts describe slow responses and uneven follow-through.

  • Amenities: Indoor pool, sauna, hammam, gym and seasonal rooftop pool; the hotel says resident spa and rooftop-pool access is included.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and partner-beach visits cost extra; reserve beach access ahead and confirm rooftop opening dates, which differ across listings.
