Free parking and occasional friendly service cannot outweigh recurring cleanliness and maintenance problems. A basic independent budget hotel in east Dearborn, scored for what it is.
Hotel Chataura is a basic independent budget hotel, not the dependable mid-range stay its three-star catalog listing suggests. Free parking, Wi-Fi and a Michigan Avenue address are useful, and some recent Expedia guests praise friendly staff and comfortable beds. But Expedia’s 4.8/10 and Booking.com’s 4.7/10 reflect a property struggling with the basics. We'd look elsewhere, even for a simple overnight stop.
The hotel advertises renovated king rooms without giving a renovation date. Recent guest accounts still describe dirty floors, worn bathrooms, missing toiletries and malfunctioning equipment; pest complaints appear on Expedia and Tripadvisor. These are more than cosmetic compromises at a budget hotel. Expedia also lists a cash deposit, so confirm the terms before arrival. We'd skip it for family trips or whenever reliable cleanliness matters more than minimizing spending.
