Hyde Park is the University of Chicago's neighborhood on the south lakefront, with Gothic campus architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House, the Museum of Science and Industry and, since June 2026, the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park. 53rd Street has a modest run of restaurants and cafes, and Promontory Point is a favorite lakefront spot.

It sits about seven miles south of the Loop. The Metra Electric reaches Millennium Station in about fifteen to twenty minutes but runs less often at night and on weekends, and hotels are few. Stay here for a campus visit or a trip centered on the Obama Center and the museums; most visitors are better off downtown.
