A practical Loop base with an impressive lobby, but rooms need more consistent polish.
The Midland is a historic 4-star Loop hotel, formerly W Chicago–City Center and now part of Tribute Portfolio. We’d consider it for a short business or sightseeing stay: Willis Tower, Union Station and transit are convenient, and the ornate lobby and cocktail bar give it character. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and welcoming staff; Tripadvisor guests also highlight comfortable beds and the location.
The rooms are the compromise. Sizes vary substantially, some bathrooms are cramped, and dated furnishings recur in Tripadvisor and Reddit feedback. September 2026 guests on Tripadvisor and Marriott also report only two elevators operating, so check their status before arrival.
