Axel's take on Williston Road & the Airport: #2 of 5 in Burlington, 5.7/10
Choose airport and university convenience over downtown atmosphere. Williston Road combines useful airport and university access with solid hotels, but roadside surroundings and fewer nearby attractions limit its appeal.
Williston Road around Dorset Street is a practical South Burlington base, not an extension of Church Street. University Mall, restaurants and Higher Ground provide useful destinations nearby, while the road west leads toward UVM and Burlington. It is a sensible choice for meetings, campus visits, sports fixtures or a flight-focused overnight.
The compromise is the road itself: traffic, substantial junctions and parking lots make short distances less appealing on foot. Being near the airport also does not mean the terminal is a comfortable luggage walk away. Skip it for a romantic, lake-focused weekend or evenings spent wandering between downtown restaurants and bars.
- Best for: business trips and conventions, sports fans
- Skip it if: You want lakefront atmosphere; Walking between downtown bars is central to the trip
- Getting around: GMT #1 Williston and #11 City Connector serve the Williston Road–Dorset Street corridor; some meals and shopping are walkable, depending on the address; BTV is a taxi ride or confirmed lodging-shuttle trip.
- After dark: Higher Ground brings concert-night activity, but this remains a traffic-oriented corridor rather than a continuous evening promenade.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $171 a night

How to choose
- Choose Homewood Suites by Hilton Burlington if your family needs kitchen-equipped suites and included breakfast for a longer stay.
- Choose Best Western Plus Windjammer Inn & Conference Center if you want airport shuttle service, included breakfast and both indoor and seasonal outdoor pools.
- Choose DoubleTree by Hilton Burlington Vermont if UVM access, refreshed rooms and a local shuttle matter more than included breakfast.
What paying more buys
Homewood Suites costs more than Delta Hotels for equipped kitchens and included hot breakfast. Best Western Plus Windjammer also sits above Delta, adding included breakfast and a seasonal outdoor pool alongside its indoor pool. The premium is less useful for a brief airport stop when you will not cook or use those extras. Typical rates with Axel here run from $146 a night at Delta Hotels by Marriott Burlington to $199 at Best Western Plus Windjammer Inn & Conference Center (last 30 days).
