Axel's take on Hastings: #3 of 6 in Barbados, 6.1/10
Stay for boardwalk evenings and Bridgetown access, not the broadest beach. Useful transport, solid hotels and boardwalk character earn third place, offset by weaker value and a smaller choice immediately nearby.
Hastings makes most sense if your idea of a good evening is a seafront walk, dinner and an earlyish night. The Richard Haynes Boardwalk links small beaches, sea-view restaurants and Rockley, while the Garrison offers a change from beach days. Bridgetown is also accessible by bus for work or sightseeing.
The drawback is the beach itself: parts are narrow and rocky, so this is a stronger walking base than a guaranteed all-day swimming spot. Main-road rooms can hear traffic. Boardwalk repairs were scheduled from July 20, 2026; completion was not verified, so confirm present access. Skip Hastings if you want clubs outside the door.
- Best for: a quiet stay, business trips and conventions
- Skip it if: A broad sandy beach is your main priority; You want a late-night party district
- Getting around: Walk the boardwalk toward Rockley where accessible; Hastings Main Road has ZR 11 and Transport Board 27; from BGI, take a taxi or 27.
- After dark: Seafront restaurants and live-music bars provide evening activity, but this is more dinner-led than club-led.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $398 a night · usually 12% under the public rate

Where to look in Hastings
- Richard Haynes Boardwalk, Hastings end. Choose this edge for seafront strolling and dinner-led evenings rather than a club-focused stay. Hotels here: Coconut Court Beach Hotel, The Soco Hotel - Adults Only.
- Garrison Savannah, coastal edge. Useful for mixing historic sights with beach time, rather than spending every day on one resort strip. Hotels here: Sugar Bay Barbados - All Inclusive, Coconut Court Beach Hotel.
- Brittons New Road. An inland hillside alternative for character and gardens; better with transport than for beach evenings on foot. Hotels here: Sweetfield Manor.
How to choose
- Choose Sugar Bay Barbados - All Inclusive if you want a family all-inclusive with praised food, children's clubs and friendly service rather than polished luxury.
- Choose Sweetfield Manor if you prefer historic character and hillside gardens at a cheaper-than-most rate, and will arrange transport.
- Choose Coconut Court Beach Hotel if you want relaxed beachfront independence and practical rooms for less than most here; stairs aren't a problem.
What paying more buys
Sweetfield Manor is cheaper than most here but trades beach convenience for hillside character; Coconut Court offers beachfront practicality without all-inclusive pricing. Sugar Bay costs considerably more for included meals, children's clubs, two pools and praised food. Independent travelers eating out won't necessarily get enough from that package to justify the difference. Typical rates with Axel here run from $197 a night at Sweetfield Manor to $680 at Sugar Bay Barbados - All Inclusive (last 30 days).
