Axel's take on City Centre (Kalekapısı): #2 of 6 in Antalya, 7.1/10
Choose practicality, airport rail and shopping over Old Town atmosphere. Kalekapısı combines strong value, airport rail and central character, but has weaker hotels and fewer nearby dining and sightseeing options than Kaleiçi.
Kalekapısı puts you on the working-city side of Antalya. The Clock Tower, Kazım Özalp’s pedestrian shopping street and the bazaar lanes are the daily landmarks, with Kaleiçi immediately downhill. Choose it for moving easily between sightseeing, everyday meals and shopping rather than spending your days inside a resort.
You give up historic courtyards and a beachfront setting, and street-facing rooms deserve a noise check. Modern AntRay access is the advantage here, not the nostalgic tram: the operator announced its suspension on July 21, 2026, with replacement buses. Don’t choose accommodation on the assumption that older descriptions of that tram still apply.
- Best for: travelers without a car, travelers on a budget, museums and culture, shopping
- Skip it if: You want a beachfront holiday; Historic surroundings matter more than convenience
- Getting around: Walk to Kaleiçi and the bazaars; T1A at İsmetpaşa or Muratpaşa serves AYT directly, with a shuttle connection for Terminal 2.
- After dark: Head towards the Clock Tower and into Kaleiçi for evening atmosphere; this is primarily a shopping-and-transport base.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $56 a night

- Kazım Özalp Caddesi. Pedestrian shopping connects modern city life with Kalekapısı; useful for shoppers who also want to explore Kaleiçi on foot. Hotels here: Best Western Plus Khan Hotel.
- Güllük Caddesi. Busy everyday shopping and traffic suit practical city stays rather than quiet evenings or historic surroundings. Hotels here: Old Town Point Hotel Antalya.

How to choose
- Choose Best Western Plus Khan Hotel if you want breakfast, reasonably spacious rooms and a pool near shopping and Kaleiçi.
- Choose Privado Hotels if you want a cheaper sightseeing base and can tolerate noise and compact economy rooms.
- Choose Start Hotel if you prioritize airport-tram access outside over fresh interiors.
What paying more buys
Privado Hotels is cheaper than most here, with compact economy rooms and recurring noise. Best Western Plus Khan costs more but adds reasonably spacious rooms, a seasonal pool, gym and spa. Old Town Point offers connecting rooms for families, though its pool is small. The upgrade is less worthwhile if you only need somewhere to sleep between outings. Typical rates with Axel here run from $37 a night at Comfort Basaran Otel to $101 at Best Western Plus Khan Hotel (last 30 days).
