Axel's take on Labadi Beach: #7 of 7 in Accra, 3.1/10
Choose resort downtime, but verify beach access after October's demolitions. Labadi offers coastal character, but weak value, limited nearby options and poor sightseeing access leave it last, with public beachfront disruption further narrowing its appeal.
Labadi is the coastal choice along La Road: stay here when sea air and downtime matter more than neighborhood wandering. The established appeal is a resort-focused stay east of Osu, rather than a compact district of shops and restaurants. It remains an option for couples planning substantial time at their accommodation.
Do not book on the strength of older beach-party descriptions. Structures at La Pleasure Beach were demolished on October 2, 2026; an October 6 reopening estimate was conditional, and a land dispute remained in the news on October 19. Confirm current access and facilities directly. Strong currents also make the ocean a poor substitute for a pool, particularly with children.
- Best for: couples, luxury travelers
- Skip it if: You want a reliable public beach-bar scene; You expect easy ocean swimming or a walkable sightseeing base
- Getting around: La Road has Osu-bound coastal trotros; walking is mainly local rather than a sightseeing circuit, and ACC transfers are by airport taxi or prebooked vehicle.
- After dark: Do not assume the former public beach nightlife is operating; confirm venues before setting out and avoid wandering the beach alone after dark.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $258 a night · usually 20% under the public rate

Where to look in Labadi Beach
- La Road, Trade Fair stretch. Favor the coastal resort stretch for downtime rather than neighborhood wandering; check beach access before making seaside plans. Hotels here: Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.
- La Road by Artists Alliance. Look toward this gallery-side stretch if art outings matter alongside the coast, rather than relying on public beach entertainment.
How to choose
- Choose Labadi Beach Hotel if you will use two pools, gardens, tennis and spa facilities for substantial resort downtime.
- Choose La Palm Royal Beach Hotel if you want cheaper pool-and-garden downtime and can accept dated chalet-style rooms.
What paying more buys
Labadi Beach Hotel costs more than La Palm Royal Beach Hotel for two outdoor pools, tennis and a spa whose reopening is not flagged as uncertain. La Palm still offers large grounds, a substantial pool and a children’s pool. The upgrade is less worthwhile if those basics suffice; neither should be booked on assumed unrestricted beach access. Typical rates with Axel here run from $184 a night at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel to $332 at Labadi Beach Hotel (last 30 days).

- Labadi Beach Hotel 8.1/10, established five-star beachfront resort and conference hotel in Accra. Strong pools, gardens and hospitality, but not consistently polished five-star luxury. Why it's here: the stronger resort-facilities choice for families and couples using pools, gardens, tennis and the spa. Accept: beach conditions need checking; humidity and air-conditioning problems affect some rooms.
- La Palm Royal Beach Hotel 7.2/10, aging 4-star seaside resort and conference hotel. Choose it for the grounds and friendly staff, not polished four-star rooms. Why it's here: the cheaper seaside grounds-and-pool choice, with chalet-style rooms and Ghanaian dining. Accept: dated rooms, controlled beach access and an unconfirmed spa reopening.
