#9 of 9 hotels in City Center & Nyhavn by Axel's take. City Center & Nyhavn is #1 of 7 places to stay in Copenhagen. The best hotels in City Center & Nyhavn, ranked · Where to stay in Copenhagen

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong central budget base, provided you can live with tiny rooms. a no-frills 2-star hotel in central Copenhagen, scored for what it is.

Wakeup Copenhagen Borgergade is a no-frills 2-star that makes sense for a short city break: you pay for an excellent location rather than space or full-service comforts. Nyhavn, Strøget and Kongens Nytorv metro are an easy walk away. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, functional rooms and friendly staff, while Booking.com guests reinforce the location’s appeal. It’s a strong pick for travelers who spend their days exploring.

The compromise is genuinely tight rooms, particularly for two people with luggage. Tripadvisor reviews also flag housekeeping that must be requested rather than assumed, with some cleaning and service inconsistencies. Breakfast, luggage lockers and parking cost extra. We’d skip it for a room-centered holiday or a longer stay requiring space to unpack; for a compact sightseeing base, it delivers well.

Best for: solo travelers on a budget; short sightseeing breaks; couples traveling light
Watch out for: very small rooms; housekeeping must be requested; paid luggage lockers
Location: Excellent walkable base near Nyhavn, Strøget and Kongens Nytorv metro.
Rooms: Compact, basic rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning and 160cm-wide double beds.
Cleanliness: Mostly positive across sources, though Tripadvisor shows some housekeeping inconsistencies.
Service: Staff generally earn praise; complaint handling receives more mixed feedback.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, breakfast buffet, lobby café, courtyard and bike rental; no dinner restaurant.
Fees and surprises: Budget separately for breakfast, luggage lockers, parking and optional early check-in.
