Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong sightseeing base with refreshed rooms, but housekeeping needs a closer eye. a renovated 4-star city hotel on Copenhagen’s City Hall Square, scored for what it is.

The Square is a contemporary 4-star city hotel whose biggest selling point is its address: Tivoli, Strøget and the metro are close by. We'd pick it for a sightseeing break rather than a hotel-centered escape. The hotel says rooms were renovated in 2025, and recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, helpful staff and breakfast. Booking.com’s strong ratings broadly back that up.

The compromises are compact standard rooms, occasional city noise and housekeeping that operates on request. Several 2026 Tripadvisor guests report missed or inadequate cleaning even after asking, although the wider cleanliness picture remains positive. Check the cleaning arrangements at arrival. Executive categories include the new ground-floor CARA lounge—not the rooftop setup older reviews describe. We'd skip it if spacious rooms, guaranteed quiet or automatic daily servicing are priorities.

• Best for: first-time Copenhagen visitors; couples on sightseeing breaks; travelers arriving by train

• Watch out for: compact standard rooms; on-request housekeeping can be inconsistent; occasional city noise

• Location: Excellent for walking: City Hall Square, Tivoli, Strøget and public transport are close.

• Rooms: Renovated in 2025; standard rooms measure 15–19 square meters, so choose categories carefully.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated, but repeated recent complaints concern missed or incomplete requested cleaning.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn consistent praise; housekeeping follow-through is less dependable.

• Amenities: Breakfast buffet, lobby bar, equipped gym, bike rental and category-dependent CARA lounge access.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is paid and limited; lounge access costs extra unless included in your room category.
