Axel's take: 8.1/10

Danish design and standout staff make a strong city base, but restoration brings compromises. a historic five-star design hotel opposite Tivoli Gardens, scored for what it is.

This historic five-star design hotel is a strong pick for travelers who value Arne Jacobsen’s architecture and sightseeing convenience over flawless luxury. Tivoli Gardens is opposite, and Central Station is a short walk away. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, particularly the concierge team, alongside comfortable beds and a well-regarded breakfast. Its character is the reason to choose it over a more anonymous luxury hotel.

The trade-offs matter at this level: some guests find rooms small or worn, and cooling attracts recurring criticism. Façade restoration is underway, with Expedia also listing work on selected guestrooms through March 31, 2027, during weekday business hours. Ask about scaffolding, views and your room’s exposure to work before booking. We’d skip it for an undisturbed luxury retreat; it makes more sense as a distinctive base for days exploring Copenhagen.

• Best for: Danish design enthusiasts; first-time Copenhagen sightseers; travelers arriving by train

• Watch out for: façade and selected-room works through March 2027; uneven cooling in warm weather; some compact or worn rooms

• Location: Opposite Tivoli Gardens and about five minutes’ walk from Central Station.

• Rooms: Distinctive Jacobsen-inspired design; some guests report tired finishes and weak cooling.

• Cleanliness: Generally strong: Booking.com scores cleanliness 8.8/10 and Expedia 9.2/10.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are a consistent strength, with repeated praise for the concierge team.

• Amenities: Fitness center, ISSEI restaurant, breakfast buffet and 24-hour room service.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast cost extra unless included; façade and selected-room works are listed through March 31, 2027.
