Axel's take: 8.6/10

A welcoming waterfront base near Nyhavn, with compact rooms the main compromise. a comfortable mid-range waterfront hotel in a converted warehouse, scored for what it is.

Copenhagen Strand is a comfortable mid-range hotel in a converted waterfront warehouse, and a strong pick for exploring Copenhagen on foot. You're close to Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv without being in the thick of their bustle. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful reception team, clean rooms and generous breakfast buffet. We'd choose it for a straightforward, comfortable city break rather than extensive facilities.

The main compromise is space: the hotel lists standard doubles at 17 square metres, and recent guests regularly describe rooms as small. A waterfront address also doesn't guarantee a water view; book a category explicitly labelled View if that matters. Guests report no air-conditioning, making hot-weather stays less appealing. We'd skip it if you need sprawling rooms or reliably cool summer nights; otherwise, its location and service make a persuasive combination.

• Best for: first-time Copenhagen visitors; couples on sightseeing breaks; families booking connecting rooms

• Watch out for: compact bedrooms and limited storage; no air-conditioning reported by guests; water views depend on room category

• Location: Waterfront setting near Nyhavn, around seven minutes on foot from Kongens Nytorv metro.

• Rooms: Nordic-style rooms; standard doubles are 17 square metres, with larger and connecting categories available.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming reception staff are one of the most consistent strengths across sites.

• Amenities: Breakfast buffet, lobby bar, free Wi-Fi and bike rental; room service operates during breakfast hours.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra; parking is paid and off-site, with the recommended garage approximately 600 metres away.
