Axel's take: 8.8/10

A characterful Copenhagen base with excellent wellness extras, but rooms can run warm. a design-led 4-star eco-hotel in Islands Brygge, scored for what it is.

Bryggen Guldsmeden is a design-led 4-star eco-hotel in Islands Brygge, and a strong pick if you want somewhere to unwind after sightseeing. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, clean rooms and organic breakfast. The Balinese-inspired decor gives it more personality than a standard city hotel, while the heated outdoor pool, sauna and steam room make the included wellness facilities a genuine selling point. Complimentary coffee, tea and snacks are thoughtful extras.

The main compromise is bedroom temperature: the hotel confirms there is no traditional air conditioning, and guests across sites mention warm rooms despite fans. Some rooms are compact, and the water-saving touchscreen showers take getting used to. You're outside the historic center, though the metro is roughly five minutes away. We'd skip it if cool sleeping conditions or doorstep sightseeing matter more than atmosphere and pool time.

• Best for: couples who want pool and sauna time; travelers who enjoy distinctive design; families booking connecting rooms

• Watch out for: no traditional air conditioning; rooms can feel warm; some compact rooms and unfamiliar shower controls; outside the historic sightseeing core

• Location: Islands Brygge neighborhood base, roughly five minutes from the metro rather than amid the central sights.

• Rooms: Distinctive decor and comfortable beds earn praise; some rooms are small, with warmth a recurring drawback.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong guest feedback across Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistent positives across recent reviews.

• Amenities: Included heated outdoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym; pool hours restrict children to daytime access.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra depending on the booking; nearby parking is paid, while wellness access is complimentary.
