Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong central pick with personality, but practicality sometimes takes second place. a playful 4-star design hotel in Copenhagen’s old town, scored for what it is.

This playful 4-star design hotel is a strong pick for exploring Copenhagen on foot without returning to a bland room. Its converted historic building houses colourful interiors, sociable bars and NENI restaurant, with a gym and outdoor sauna adding substance beyond the styling. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the central location, comfortable rooms and cleanliness; the complimentary minibar is a welcome extra.

The trade-off is that design sometimes outruns practicality. Open-plan washbasins and shower arrangements can make sharing awkward, while several Tripadvisor guests flag limited luggage space and housekeeping that must be requested. Staff feedback is mostly warm, though problem-solving is less consistent. We’d choose it for a characterful city break, but skip it if you want conventional bathroom privacy and seamless, traditional hotel service.

• Best for: design-minded couples; solo city breaks; sightseeing on foot

• Watch out for: open-plan bathroom arrangements; housekeeping request system; limited luggage space in some rooms

• Location: Old-town setting beside the Round Tower, within walking distance of Nørreport and its airport metro.

• Rooms: Colourful, air-conditioned rooms with comfortable beds and free minibars; bathroom layouts favour openness over privacy.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings, tempered by some reports of inconsistent requested housekeeping.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, but reception communication and complaint handling draw some criticism.

• Amenities: NENI restaurant, cocktail and lobby bars, gym, outdoor sauna and bicycle rental.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra; dogs incur a fee, and parking is off-site.
