Axel's take: 7.1/10

Choose it for Clinic convenience and helpful shuttle drivers, not polished four-star comfort. a historic 4-star near Cleveland Clinic with uneven upkeep, scored for what it is.

The Tudor Arms is a historic 4-star in University Circle that works better as a practical Cleveland Clinic base than an upscale getaway. Its characterful building, comfortable beds and free local shuttle are the strongest reasons to book. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the shuttle drivers and helpful staff, particularly during stressful hospital visits.

The catch is consistency. Alongside clean, comfortable stays, recent reviews across sites describe dirty floors, worn rooms and maintenance problems; Tripadvisor guests also repeatedly report elevator trouble. Bathrooms can be small, and breakfast gets mixed feedback. Parking and breakfast cost extra unless included in your booking. We'd consider it for hospital appointments or university visits, but skip it if dependable housekeeping, reliable elevator access or fresh four-star surroundings are essential.

• Best for: Cleveland Clinic patients and families; Case Western Reserve visitors; Travelers who appreciate historic buildings

• Watch out for: Uneven housekeeping and room maintenance; Recurring reports of elevator trouble; Extra charges for parking and breakfast

• Location: Convenient for Cleveland Clinic and University Circle institutions, rather than a downtown sightseeing base.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but furnishings and maintenance vary; some bathrooms are small.

• Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but recent complaints across several sites show inconsistent housekeeping.

• Service: Shuttle drivers receive particularly strong praise; front-desk experiences are less consistent.

• Amenities: Hilton confirms a restaurant, gym, free Wi-Fi and a free shuttle covering a two-mile radius; no airport shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking and breakfast are additional unless included; confirm elevator operation if step-free access is essential.
