Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong downtown pick for games and cocktails, with renovations to check before booking. a design-forward, upscale 4-star in downtown Cleveland, scored for what it is.

Metropolitan at The 9 is a design-forward, upscale 4-star that makes particular sense for a downtown weekend. Progressive Field and Rocket Arena are an easy walk, while the Vault cocktail bar gives the hotel more character than a standard business property. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. We'd put it high on the list for couples and sports fans who want dinner and drinks close at hand.

The main caveat right now is construction: Marriott says the lobby and Ledger Bar are undergoing renovations, expected to finish in early November 2026, with some areas and amenities limited. Some rooms also have glass-enclosed showers with less privacy than a conventional bathroom. Valet parking and breakfast cost extra. We'd skip it during the work if an undisturbed, full-service stay is the priority.

• Best for: couples on a downtown weekend; Guardians and arena-event fans; travelers who enjoy hotel cocktail bars

• Watch out for: lobby and Ledger Bar renovations through early November 2026; limited shower privacy in some rooms; paid valet parking and breakfast

• Location: Easy walking access to Progressive Field, Rocket Arena and downtown restaurants.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise; check the bathroom layout before sharing a room.

• Cleanliness: Recent Expedia guests consistently praise clean rooms; Tripadvisor's overall cleanliness rating is strong.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength across Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Amenities: Vault cocktail bar, restaurant, seasonal rooftop lounge and fitness center.

• Fees and surprises: Valet, breakfast and dogs incur charges; lobby and Ledger Bar renovations currently limit some access.
