Hotels in Charlottea no-frills 2-star extended-stay hotel with in-room kitchens
4.9/10
Useful kitchens and location, but recurring cleanliness problems make this a risky pick.
This no-frills extended-stay hotel now operates as Extended Stay America Select Suites. Kitchens, guest laundry and free parking make it practical for longer stays near UNC Charlotte. Guests often praise helpful staff and spacious rooms, and some report clean, comfortable stays. Still, we'd be cautious: its strong Google rating contrasts with much weaker feedback elsewhere.
The hotel advertises upgraded bedding and larger TVs, but recent Expedia, Travelocity and Agoda guests repeatedly describe smoke odors, worn bathrooms and inconsistent cleaning; multiple guests also report roaches. Those are basic shortcomings even for a budget property. Cookware and dishware cost extra, housekeeping is infrequent, and reception has limited hours. It's mainly an option for travelers who need a kitchen and can inspect their room before committing; we'd skip it for a family vacation or a dependable overnight stop.

Best for: Long-stay travelers needing a kitchen; Pet owners comfortable with basic accommodation
Watch out for: Recurring cleaning and roach complaints; Smoke odors despite non-smoking policy; Limited reception hours and paid kitchen supplies
Location: University City location near UNC Charlotte, with free parking and McCullough light rail within walking distance.
Rooms: Spacious kitchen studios; upgraded bedding and TVs do not resolve recurring reports of worn fixtures and smoke odors.
Cleanliness: Some guests praise clean rooms, but repeated recent reports of dirt and roaches are a serious concern.
Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, though complaint handling and check-in reliability receive mixed feedback.
Amenities: In-room kitchens, free Wi-Fi and guest laundry; do not count on breakfast, which the current official page does not advertise.
Fees and surprises: Cookware, dishware and pets carry charges; housekeeping is every two weeks on longer stays, and late arrivals need advance confirmation.
