West Ashley Inn is a basic 2-star roadside motel, and we’d skip it even for a budget overnight. Some recent Expedia guests praise helpful staff and clean rooms, but Booking.com reviews repeatedly describe roaches, stained bedding, smoke odors and neglected maintenance. Free parking and pet-friendly policies don’t outweigh that inconsistent delivery of the basics.

More importantly, an April 19, 2026 fire led authorities to order the entire property evacuated after inspectors found widespread missing or nonworking smoke alarms, according to Live 5 News. Google and Tripadvisor label it temporarily closed; we found no verified reopening announcement. That makes this more than a dated-room compromise. Choose somewhere else, particularly for a family stay, and don’t rely on a booking listing as proof it has reopened.
