Hotels in CharlestonA practical 3-star all-suite hotel overlooking a marina outside downtown Charleston
7.5/10
Roomy suites and free parking make sense, but tired interiors temper the appeal.
This 3-star all-suite hotel beside Ripley Light Marina is a good-value Charleston base if you're happy to drive into the historic district. Spacious rooms, free parking and included breakfast are its strongest selling points, with an outdoor pool, hot tub and gym rounding out the package. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise friendly staff, and marina-facing rooms offer a pleasant outlook. We'd choose it for practical convenience rather than Charleston character.
The catch is condition: recent reviews across sites describe dated bathrooms, worn flooring and maintenance lapses, alongside plenty of clean, comfortable stays. Housekeeping gets mostly positive marks, but recurring cleanliness and odor complaints deserve attention. Breakfast can also be crowded and unevenly replenished. The downtown shuttle costs extra. We'd skip it if you want polished interiors or to explore the historic district entirely on foot.

Best for: Families wanting extra room; Charleston visitors with a car; Travelers prioritizing included parking and breakfast
Watch out for: Worn rooms and bathrooms; Uneven housekeeping and breakfast replenishment; Historic district requires transportation
Location: Beside Ripley Light Marina in West Ashley; downtown is a short drive, not an easy sightseeing stroll.
Rooms: Suites have sofa beds, microwaves and mini-fridges; Marriott advertises renovations without a date, but recent guests still report wear.
Cleanliness: Mostly positive feedback, with recurring exceptions involving odors and missed cleaning.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength, though problem handling is less uniformly praised.
Amenities: Included breakfast, outdoor saltwater pool, hot tub, gym and guest laundry.
Fees and surprises: On-site parking is free; the downtown shuttle carries an additional charge.
