Axel's take: 8.4/10

Generous rooms and grand-hotel character, with some dated edges and a separate spa bill. a traditional five-star grand hotel on Avenue Louise, scored for what it is.

Steigenberger Icon Wiltcher’s is a traditional five-star grand hotel on Avenue Louise, strongest on space, comfort and old-school character. Even entry-level rooms measure 45 square metres. Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful staff and comfortable surroundings, making it a strong pick for travelers who prefer generous proportions to contemporary design. The shopping-and-dining location is another strength, though it is outside the immediate Grand Place sightseeing core.

The trade-offs matter at this level: recent guests still describe some furnishings and facilities as dated, and service is not uniformly polished. Most importantly, the hotel confirms that Aspria’s indoor pool and spa cost extra, require pool reservations and exclude under-18s; only the hotel’s own gym is complimentary. We’d skip it for a family swimming break or if freshly updated interiors are essential.

• Best for: couples who enjoy traditional grand hotels; Avenue Louise shopping trips; travelers who prioritize spacious rooms

• Watch out for: some dated furnishings and facilities; paid, adults-only pool and spa; outside the immediate Grand Place core

• Location: Avenue Louise shops and restaurants are convenient; public transport is nearby.

• Rooms: Unusually spacious entry-level rooms, with traditional décor that some guests find dated.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Trip.com.

• Service: Mostly praised as helpful and welcoming, with occasional lapses in attentiveness.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar and free 24-hour hotel gym; Aspria provides the indoor pool and spa.

• Fees and surprises: Aspria access costs extra and is adults-only; pool reservations are required, and public parking is paid.
