Axel's take: 7.9/10

Comfortable rooms and helpful staff, but construction and rough surroundings limit the appeal. a practical 4-star near Brussels-Midi station, scored for what it is.

Mercure Brussels Centre Midi is a practical 4-star near the station, strongest as a comfortable base for rail travelers rather than a scenic Brussels escape. Accor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean rooms and helpful reception staff. The gym, sauna, steam room and whirlpool add something beyond the basics, while Grand Place is roughly a 20-minute walk away. We'd pick it for a short stay built around train connections.

The substantial catch is outside: Boulevard Jamar metro construction remained a recurring complaint in October 2026, complicating the approach and spoiling views. Guests across several sites also describe the immediate neighborhood as run-down, with some uncomfortable walking after dark. There's a bar but no full restaurant. We'd skip it for a romantic weekend or if pleasant evening strolls from the doorstep matter.

• Best for: Eurostar and rail travelers; short business stays; travelers prioritizing room space

• Watch out for: major metro construction outside; uninviting surroundings after dark; no full restaurant

• Location: A short walk from Brussels-Midi; convenient for trains, less appealing for neighborhood atmosphere.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, with large bathrooms; some recent guests mention firm beds or warm rooms.

• Cleanliness: Consistently praised across sources, despite occasional individual lapses.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming reception staff are a recurring strength in recent reviews.

• Amenities: Gym, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, free Wi-Fi and bar; buffet breakfast available.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and parking cost extra; city tax applies, and construction can complicate access.
