#7 of 9 hotels in Avenue Louise by Axel's take. Avenue Louise is #4 of 9 places to stay in Brussels. The best hotels in Avenue Louise, ranked · Where to stay in Brussels

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A characterful Brussels base, but choose your room carefully. a characterful mid-range boutique hotel in Ixelles, scored for what it is.

Le Berger is a mid-range boutique hotel in Ixelles, with retro styling, a former rendezvous-house history and a small heated garden pool. It's a strong pick for travelers who prefer personality to chain-hotel uniformity. Recent Expedia and Booking.com feedback praises friendly staff, cleanliness and convenient access to shops, restaurants and the metro. The hotel now distinguishes newly refurbished rooms from its original categories: we'd book deliberately rather than assume every room matches the freshest photos.

The compromises are room-dependent: compact layouts, limited daylight, corridor noise and fans rather than air-conditioning in several categories. Guests reported renovation disruption through summer 2026; the hotel now advertises refurbished rooms, but completion of all work isn't independently confirmed. Ask before booking if daytime quiet matters. We'd skip the smallest categories for longer stays, and choose elsewhere if spacious rooms and reliable soundproofing are priorities.

Best for: couples who enjoy retro character; solo travelers exploring Brussels; city breaks without a car
Watch out for: small rooms and uneven daylight; corridor noise and room-specific air-conditioning; confirm remaining renovation work
Location: Handy Ixelles base near Porte de Namur metro, cafés and shopping, rather than directly on Grand Place.
Rooms: Refurbished and original categories coexist; check size, window outlook and air-conditioning before choosing.
Cleanliness: Recent feedback is broadly positive, with stronger cleanliness reports than some older renovation-era reviews.
Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff receive repeated praise, although occasional slow service is reported.
Amenities: Small heated outdoor pool, garden, bar, buffet breakfast and free Wi-Fi; pool access is included.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra; Expedia lists city tax and a deposit; no parking, and street access by car requires permission.
