#1 of 6 hotels in Sainte-Catherine & Dansaert by Axel's take. Sainte-Catherine & Dansaert is #3 of 9 places to stay in Brussels. The best hotels in Sainte-Catherine & Dansaert, ranked · Where to stay in Brussels

Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong central hostel with comfortable beds, helpful staff and some irritating extras. a modern city-center hostel with dorms and private rooms, scored for what it is.

LATROUPE Grand Place is a modern hostel with private and family rooms alongside dorms, not a conventional hotel. It’s a strong pick for exploring Brussels on foot: Grand Place is a short walk away, and Booking.com, Expedia and Hostelworld guests repeatedly praise the location, helpful staff and comfortable beds. Privacy curtains make the dorm bunks more appealing, while the bar, events and coworking space give you reasons to linger downstairs.

The trade-offs are mostly hostel ones, plus some annoying extras. Dorm towels and luggage storage cost extra, and several recent guests across sites mention unpleasant smells around reception or bathrooms, despite broadly strong cleanliness ratings. Hostelworld feedback also suggests that meeting people isn’t automatic here. We’d choose it for a convenient, comfortable city break, but skip it if you want full hotel service or a reliably sociable backpacker atmosphere.

  • Best for: solo sightseers comfortable with dorms; friends exploring Brussels on foot; families wanting a private room with hostel facilities

  • Watch out for: extra charges for dorm towels and luggage storage; recurring reports of lobby or bathroom odors; social atmosphere varies

  • Location: Central pedestrian-street setting, a short walk from Grand Place and Bourse transit.

  • Rooms: Private rooms, family rooms and four- to six-bed dorms; guests regularly praise beds and dorm privacy curtains.

  • Cleanliness: Generally well rated, but recent reviews flag some bathroom-cleaning lapses and persistent odors.

  • Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a consistent strength; reception operates around the clock.

  • Amenities: Bar, events, coworking areas, terrace, laundry and Wi-Fi; breakfast is available.

  • Fees and surprises: Dorm towels and luggage storage carry extra charges; breakfast is not included in every booking.
