Axel's take: 7.8/10

Good downtown value, but room comfort and noise are the compromises. a no-frills 3-star in Bogotá’s historic downtown, scored for what it is.

Virrey Central is a no-frills 3-star that makes sense for budget-minded sightseeing in Bogotá’s historic downtown. We'd pick it for access to the Gold Museum and La Candelaria, helpful staff and an included breakfast that guests regularly praise. Booking.com and Expedia reviews generally support the same picture: a simple, usually clean hotel offering good value rather than polished surroundings.

The compromises are sleep quality and the immediate neighborhood. Recent guests mention hard mattresses, corridor or kitchen noise, and uneven room condition; Wi-Fi also earns weaker feedback than the staff or cleanliness. Tripadvisor guests have cautioned about the surrounding streets after dark. Ask for a room away from the kitchen and busy corridors. We'd skip it if you're a light sleeper or want comfortable evening wandering right outside.

• Best for: budget-minded sightseeing; short downtown stays; travelers prioritizing breakfast and helpful staff

• Watch out for: hard mattresses and internal noise; uneven room condition and Wi-Fi; surrounding streets after dark

• Location: Convenient for the Gold Museum and historic-center sights; guests advise caution outside at night.

• Rooms: Simple rooms with variable upkeep; hard beds and kitchen or corridor noise recur in feedback.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated across Booking.com and Expedia, despite occasional housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Helpful, attentive staff are a consistent strength, though individual experiences vary.

• Amenities: Included breakfast, restaurant-bar, free Wi-Fi, elevator and 24-hour reception cover the basics.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra, spaces are limited, and Expedia says advance reservation is required.
