Axel's take: 7.3/10

Good budget value downtown, but street noise and the surroundings are meaningful compromises. a simple 3-star hotel in central Bogotá, scored for what it is.

Hotel San Francisco de Asís is a simple 3-star downtown base that makes sense for budget-conscious sightseeing, provided you know the trade-offs. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally rate cleanliness and staff more highly than the facilities, with helpful service a repeated strength. The hotel confirms a restaurant, Wi-Fi and free parking subject to availability. We'd consider it for a short, practical stay rather than a relaxing city break.

The biggest compromise is outside: several guests describe uncomfortable surroundings, particularly at night. We'd plan on door-to-door transport after dark. Traffic noise, hard mattresses and dated rooms also recur, while breakfast gets mixed reactions. Request a room away from Carrera 10, and don't assume every room has air-conditioning. We'd skip it if quiet sleep or comfortable evening walks are priorities.

• Best for: budget-conscious sightseers; short downtown stays

• Watch out for: guests report uncomfortable surroundings after dark; traffic noise in Carrera 10-facing rooms; hard mattresses and dated rooms

• Location: Central for cultural attractions and transport, but guests repeatedly caution about the immediate surroundings.

• Rooms: Simple accommodation; recurring complaints concern firm beds, street noise and uneven upkeep.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength in Booking.com and Expedia ratings, despite occasional housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff earn frequent praise; English-language assistance may be limited.

• Amenities: Restaurant, Wi-Fi and 24-hour guest service; check whether breakfast is included in your booking.

• Fees and surprises: Free parking is subject to availability; Expedia lists charges for early check-in and late checkout.
