Axel's take: 9.1/10

A strong luxury city base, with standout service and a small-scale rooftop pool. a contemporary five-star luxury hotel in Eixample, scored for what it is.

The One Barcelona is a contemporary five-star luxury hotel in Eixample, just off Passeig de Gràcia. It's a strong pick for travelers who want attentive service and easy sightseeing rather than a sprawling resort. Recent Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, cleanliness and comfortable beds; Booking.com's strong ratings reinforce that picture. The rooftop views, complimentary spa water-area access and proximity to Casa Milà give it substance beyond the polished interiors.

Choose your room carefully: the hotel's entry-level Cosy rooms are 24 square meters without views, and even the larger Deluxe category lacks an outlook. The rooftop pool is for cooling off, not swimming laps. We'd skip it if generous entry-level rooms or extensive pool facilities define luxury for you; otherwise, it delivers convincingly on the essentials.

• Best for: couples on a luxury city break; Gaudí sightseeing and upscale shopping; travelers who prioritize attentive service

• Watch out for: Cosy and Deluxe rooms have no views; compact rooftop plunge pool; breakfast inclusion depends on booking

• Location: Walkable Eixample setting near Casa Milà, Passeig de Gràcia and Diagonal metro.

• Rooms: Comfort wins praise; Cosy rooms start at 24 square meters, so check size and outlook carefully.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong ratings and repeated recent praise across booking and review sites.

• Service: Helpful reception, concierge and door staff are recurring strengths in recent reviews.

• Amenities: Rooftop plunge pool and bar, spa water area with complimentary guest access, sauna and 24-hour gym.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; parking, transfers and spa treatments are additional expenses.
