Axel's take: 8.8/10

A dependable city base with standout staff, strong cleanliness and modest leisure facilities. A compact, modern 4-star city hotel in Barcelona’s Eixample, scored for what it is.

Catalonia Gran Vía BCN is a compact, modern 4-star in Eixample, and a strong pick for a sightseeing-focused Barcelona trip. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, clean rooms and generous breakfast, while Booking.com’s ratings reinforce its strengths in service and comfort. Urgell and Universitat metro stations are close, and Plaça de Catalunya is roughly a 10–15-minute walk away. We’d choose it for dependable city comfort rather than luxury trimmings.

The compromises are mostly about space: some rooms are compact, the pool is small and the gym is limited. Some guests also dislike the open-style bathroom layouts, so check your room category if privacy matters. The hotel lists its outdoor pool as closed October 31–March 31, subject to change. Skip it if spacious rooms or substantial leisure facilities are central to your stay.

• Best for: Couples on sightseeing breaks; Travelers using public transport; Guests prioritizing cleanliness and helpful staff

• Watch out for: Compact rooms and some open-style bathroom layouts; Small pool and limited gym; Seasonal pool closure

• Location: Well-connected Eixample base near Urgell and Universitat, within walking distance of Plaça de Catalunya.

• Rooms: Modern and generally comfortable; sizes and bathroom layouts vary, with terrace categories available.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback and major booking-site ratings.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception and housekeeping teams earn repeated praise.

• Amenities: Small outdoor pool, solarium, compact gym, gastrobar and well-reviewed buffet breakfast.

• Fees and surprises: City tax is collected at the property; breakfast may be extra, and nearby public parking is paid.
