Axel's take: 8.2/10

Welcoming staff and a rooftop pool make this a strong base, unless you sleep lightly. a practical 4-star city hotel in Barcelona’s Eixample, scored for what it is.

Petit Palace Trencadis is a practical 4-star in Eixample, better for a comfortable city break than a luxury escape. We'd pick it for the consistently praised staff, cleanliness and breakfast: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests agree these are its strongest points. Restaurants and cafés surround the hotel, and the rooftop pool and jacuzzi are welcome extras after sightseeing.

The main compromise is soundproofing. Guests on multiple sites report hearing neighboring rooms and closing doors, so light sleepers should think twice. Rooms generally earn good comfort reports, but some guests find them basic for four stars, and the rooftop area is compact. Allow roughly ten minutes to reach the metro. It's a strong fit for travelers who prioritize helpful service and neighborhood dining over polished luxury or guaranteed quiet.

• Best for: couples on sightseeing breaks; travelers who enjoy neighborhood restaurants; city explorers wanting a rooftop dip

• Watch out for: noise between rooms and from closing doors; compact rooftop pool area; roughly ten-minute walk to the metro

• Location: Restaurant-rich Eixample setting; Casa Batlló is within about a 15-minute walk.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and practical rather than luxurious; sound insulation is the recurring weakness.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Tripadvisor and Expedia feedback.

• Service: Warm, helpful reception staff are the clearest recurring highlight.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool and jacuzzi, buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi and bicycles; limited private parking.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; pet charges depend on booking channel, with direct bookings exempt according to the hotel.
