Axel's take: 7.7/10

Friendly staff and a walkable location make this basic hotel worth considering. a no-frills 3-star in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone, scored for what it is.

Tradicional Villa Del Mar is a no-frills 3-star in the Romantic Zone, best treated as a practical base rather than a resort. We’d consider it for a budget-minded trip: Expedia and Booking.com guests consistently praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and convenient location. Restaurants, markets and the Cuale River are nearby, with Los Muertos Beach roughly a 10-minute walk away. Some rooms have balconies, and suites offer kitchens.

The main compromise is uneven room condition: recent guests describe both refreshed rooms and tired furnishings or bathrooms. Air-conditioning is room-dependent, not standard throughout; the official room descriptions confirm this, so check the exact category and any supplement before booking. There’s no elevator or on-site parking. We’d skip it if you need step-free access, guaranteed cooling without checking details, or consistently modern rooms.

• Best for: budget-minded independent travelers; walkable dining and sightseeing; longer stays in kitchen-equipped suites

• Watch out for: air-conditioning varies by room; uneven room condition; stairs only to upper floors

• Location: Romantic Zone near the Cuale River, restaurants and markets; roughly 10 minutes’ walk to Los Muertos Beach.

• Rooms: Simple tiled rooms; balconies and kitchens depend on category, and upkeep receives mixed feedback.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength, with favorable cleanliness ratings on Expedia and Booking.com.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the most consistent praise across booking sites.

• Amenities: Rooftop terrace, 24-hour reception and free Wi-Fi; suites have kitchen facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Confirm whether air-conditioning is included or costs extra; no elevator or on-site parking.
