Baggage fees and no price-drop refunds weaken Flair's value

Axel recommends Flair only when the fully priced trip is clearly cheaper and your plans are firm. Basic Bundle leaves carry-on bags, checked bags and seat selection extra, while confirmed fare drops bring no refund or credit. The low cancellation rate in September 2026 is a strength, but costly changes and documented refund failures make the headline fare a poor guide to value.

  • Best
  • Only 0.26% of flights were cancelled in September 2026, according to OAG.
  • Lite Bundle includes a 10 kg carry-on.
  • Worst
  • Confirmed fare drops produce no refund or credit, even with a change-fee waiver.
  • Basic Bundle carry-on bags cost USD49 to USD109 at booking on U.S.-originating trips.
  • Voluntary changes are prohibited within 24 hours of departure, including with Pro Bundle.

If the fare drops after you book, can you get money back?

NoRepriceability 3.8/10

No. Flair excludes refunds or credits for postbooking fare drops, so lower-fare differences are lost, even with a fee waiver. Basic Bundle, Lite Bundle and Plus Bundle charge USD89 to USD199 per passenger per segment for U.S.-originating changes, depending on timing, with CAD otherwise. Pro Bundle waives one change or cancellation fee, not fare increases. Changes stop within 24 hours of departure. Eligible cancellations return credit less applicable fees. The website says credits expire 12 months after booking, but the June 1, 2026 international tariff says they do not expire. Domestic credits are nontransferable. U.S.-route transferability is unconfirmed.

Direct U.S.-route bookings qualify for an original-payment refund within 24 hours of booking, with DOT protection starting at least 7 days before departure. Flair's tariff specifies more than 7 days and requests through Customer Support. Canada's domestic window returns credit, effective June 10, 2026. Cancelling and rebooking is not verified price protection, and access to the lower fare or leftover credit is unconfirmed. Axel's supplied observations include no sample size, period or results, so no observed savings can be reported.

Fare difference on a cheaper change
Lost. The current general policy excludes refunds or credits for confirmed-booking fare differences. The domestic tariff explicitly forfeits lower-fare reductions; no U.S.-route exception was found. A change-fee waiver does not preserve the reduction.
Same flight, lower price
Flair's Flight Changes page excludes refunds or credits for fare differences after booking confirmation. It displays no publication or update date; checked October 26, 2026. Support explains ordinary cancellation and credit redemption, but neither page promises a fee-free same-flight price adjustment. Cancel-and-rebook is only a possible workaround under normal fees or waivers, not a verified price-protection policy; access to the lower fare and retention of leftover credit were not confirmed.
Credits (Future Travel Credits)
Flight Changes specifies expiry 12 months after the original booking, not credit issuance. However, the current international tariff, issued and effective June 1, 2026, defines Travel Credit as nonexpiring. The website's operational limit is reported here, with this unresolved conflict.
24-hour rule
Direct U.S.-route bookings qualify for a full original-payment refund when cancelled within 24 hours and sufficiently far before departure. Flair's international tariff specifies more than 7 days ahead and directs refund requests to Customer Support; DOT protection starts at least 7 days ahead. Canada's domestic fee-free window returns credit, effective June 10, 2026, rather than universally providing cash refunds.
Same-day change
Voluntary changes are prohibited within 24 hours before departure, including with TravelFlex or Pro. The current TravelFlex page requires changes at least 24 hours ahead; its waiver covers only one change.
Schedule changes
For U.S.–Canada itineraries, DOT requires an original-payment refund if Flair cancels, advances departure by at least 6 hours, delays arrival by at least 6 hours, changes the origin or destination airport, adds connections, or makes another qualifying significant change, and the traveler declines the changed or replacement transportation and credits. This applies regardless of cause. Flair also offers rebooking under Canadian protections. Its policy permits refunds for airline-controlled disruptions, including safety-related ones, when replacement travel no longer meets the traveler's needs; for outside-control disruptions, it offers a refund if rebooking within 48 hours is unavailable. Unused optional services are refundable. That Canadian 48-hour condition does not replace the separate U.S. refund right.

Refunds and disruptions

U.S. DOT rules require original-payment refunds after cancellations or qualifying significant changes on itineraries between the U.S. and Canada when you decline replacement travel and credits, regardless of cause. Refunds are generally due within seven business days for credit cards or 20 calendar days otherwise. Canada's APPR also applies. Flair promises qualifying meals, hotels, transport and other-airline rebooking, implementing legal duties. Qualifying arrival delays of three, six or nine hours attract CAD 400, CAD 700 or CAD 1,000 compensation.

The Canadian Transportation Agency issued a CAD 174,000 penalty notice on July 31, 2025, covering rebooking failures and 24 late unused-ticket refunds. On May 29, 2026, it issued a CAD 35,000 notice for compensation-response failures. Past late refunds are documented, but a current routine of replacing cash with vouchers was not verified.

Reliability

Cirium's Canadian airline figures, reported by PAX, show 74.23% on-time arrivals from January 1 to December 31, 2025, with 96.82% arrival-time coverage. OAG separately reports that 0.26% of flights were cancelled from September 1 to September 30, 2026. The cancellation result is a strength, while punctuality is less convincing. These figures cover different periods and should not be treated as one matching annual record.

Fees

Basic Bundle includes only a free personal item up to 7 kg. On U.S.-originating trips, a carry-on costs USD49 to USD109 and the first 23 kg checked bag USD69 to USD119 at booking, tax-inclusive per passenger per segment. Other origins use CAD. Seat selection costs extra in every bundle, while random assignment is free at check-in. Children under 14 receive age-based proximity, not universal adjacency.

Add-ons increase the advertised fare, but a mandatory charge added after the first displayed total was not confirmed. On December 5, 2025, the Canadian Transportation Agency issued a CAD 2,000 penalty notice for third-party charge disclosure, not proof of a later mandatory surcharge.

Complaints

No complaint rate per 100,000 passengers is confirmed for Flair. The available assessment says only that its U.S. passenger sample was too small to measure a rate. Mishandled bags and wheelchairs or scooters were not reported to the U.S. DOT in April, May, July or August 2026. Bumping data was not reported for April through June 2026. These gaps do not establish a clean handling record.

Loyalty program

No current points-or-miles earning and redemption program was verified. Flair Flyers Club is advertised as an email and SMS offers subscription, not a confirmed mileage program. Award pricing, mileage expiry and loyalty cuts over the last 24 months are therefore not confirmed. Marketing vouchers and cancellation credits are not loyalty miles.

Choose Flair Airlines if

  • Travel with only the included personal item.
  • You can commit to firm travel dates.
  • You find a lower total after adding baggage and seats.

Book elsewhere if

  • You need to change plans close to departure.
  • You want refunds or credit when fares drop.
  • You need guaranteed adjacent seats for every child under 14.

Tips

  • Buy bags during booking because gate prices are higher.
  • Accept a free random seat at check-in if you do not need a specific seat.
  • Use online self-service to avoid the per-person fee for assisted reservations or adjustments.

Questions travelers ask

Does Flair charge change fees?

Yes. Basic Bundle, Lite Bundle and Plus Bundle charge tax-inclusive fees per passenger per segment: USD89 to USD119 more than 7 days ahead, USD109 to USD144 from 48 hours to 7 days, and USD150 to USD199 from 24 to 48 hours, for U.S.-originating trips. Other origins use CAD. Pro Bundle or TravelFlex waives one change fee, not fare increases. No voluntary changes are allowed within 24 hours.

Can I get money back if my Flair fare drops?

No. Flair's policy excludes refunds or credits when a confirmed fare falls, and a change-fee waiver does not preserve the reduction. Cancelling and rebooking is only a possible workaround under normal cancellation fees or waivers. Access to the lower fare and retention of leftover credit were not confirmed, so Axel would not book Flair expecting price-drop protection.

How long do Flair travel credits last?

The website says 12 months after the original booking, not after credit issuance. However, the international tariff effective June 1, 2026 defines Travel Credit as nonexpiring, leaving an unresolved conflict. Cancellation credits remain on the original reservation. Domestic Future Travel Credits are nontransferable, while use by another traveler on U.S. routes remains unconfirmed. Check the applicable terms before relying on the balance.

What do I get if Flair cancels my flight?

For covered U.S. itineraries, you can receive an original-payment refund if you decline replacement transportation and credits, regardless of the cancellation's cause. Unused optional services are also refundable. Canadian protections provide rebooking and, when applicable, meals, hotels, transport and compensation. Flair's outside-control policy offers a refund if rebooking within 48 hours is unavailable, but that condition does not replace the separate U.S. refund right.

How much do carry-on and checked bags cost?

Basic Bundle includes a personal item up to 7 kg. For U.S.-originating trips, tax-inclusive booking prices per passenger per segment are USD49 to USD109 for a 10 kg carry-on and USD69 to USD119 for the first 23 kg checked bag. At the gate, these rise to USD99 to USD154 and USD109 to USD164 respectively. Other origins use CAD. Lite Bundle includes the carry-on, while Plus Bundle and Pro Bundle also include the checked bag.

  • Best: Only 0.26% of flights were cancelled in September 2026, according to OAG.
  • Best: Lite Bundle includes a 10 kg carry-on.
  • Worst: Confirmed fare drops produce no refund or credit, even with a change-fee waiver.
  • Worst: Basic Bundle carry-on bags cost USD49 to USD109 at booking on U.S.-originating trips.
  • Worst: Voluntary changes are prohibited within 24 hours of departure, including with Pro Bundle.

If the fare drops after you book, can you get money back? No

Key facts

  • Fare difference on a cheaper change: Lost. The current general policy excludes refunds or credits for confirmed-booking fare differences. The domestic tariff explicitly forfeits lower-fare reductions; no U.S.-route exception was found. A change-fee waiver does not preserve the reduction.
  • Same flight, lower price: Flair's Flight Changes page excludes refunds or credits for fare differences after booking confirmation.
  • Credits (Future Travel Credits): Flight Changes specifies expiry 12 months after the original booking, not credit issuance. However, the current international tariff, issued and effective June 1, 2026, defines Travel Credit as nonexpiring. The website's operational limit is reported here, with this unresolved conflict.
  • 24-hour rule: Direct U.S.-route bookings qualify for a full original-payment refund when cancelled within 24 hours and sufficiently far before departure. Flair's international tariff specifies more than 7 days ahead and directs refund requests to Customer Support; DOT protection starts at least 7 days ahead. Canada's domestic fee-free window returns credit, effective June 10, 2026, rather than universally providing cash refunds.
  • Same-day change: Voluntary changes are prohibited within 24 hours before departure, including with TravelFlex or Pro. The current TravelFlex page requires changes at least 24 hours ahead; its waiver covers only one change.
  • Schedule changes: For U.S.–Canada itineraries, DOT requires an original-payment refund if Flair cancels, advances departure by at least 6 hours, delays arrival by at least 6 hours, changes the origin or destination airport, adds connections, or makes another qualifying significant change, and the traveler declines the changed or replacement transportation and credits.
