Axel's take: 7.5/10

A good family beachfront base, held back by repetitive food and uneven maintenance. a mid-range, family-focused beachfront all-inclusive, scored for what it is.

Park Royal Beach Ixtapa is a mid-range, family-focused all-inclusive on El Palmar Beach. It's a good pick if beachfront convenience and friendly staff matter more than polished rooms or memorable dining. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the service, while ocean-view balconies are a clear draw. The hotel lists a kids' water park, kids' club and gym alongside its outdoor pool.

The compromises are recurring rather than isolated: recent guests across several sites describe repetitive food, elevator problems and a lively atmosphere that can turn noisy. Room cleanliness generally earns good marks, but multiple Tripadvisor guests report cloudy or dirty pool water, and rooms show their age. We'd choose it for an activity-filled family break, not a quiet couples' escape; skip it if food quality or consistently well-maintained facilities are priorities.

Best for: families wanting an easy beach holiday; travelers prioritizing friendly service; guests who enjoy lively resort activities
Watch out for: repetitive food and limited variety; elevator problems and uneven pool upkeep; crowded pool areas and nighttime noise
Location: Directly on El Palmar Beach in Ixtapa's hotel zone, with restaurants within walking distance.
Rooms: Balconies and ocean-view options appeal, but dated fittings and maintenance complaints recur.
Cleanliness: Room cleaning is generally well rated; recent pool-cleanliness reports are less consistent.
Service: Friendly restaurant and activity staff are a recurring strength, despite occasional service complaints.
Amenities: Outdoor pool, children's water park, kids' club, gym, restaurants and nightclub.
Fees and surprises: Expedia lists free self-parking; all-inclusive does not mean round-the-clock restaurant availability.
