Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong family beach pick, with friendly staff but uneven food and room upkeep. a mid-range, family-focused beachfront all-inclusive, scored for what it is.

Holiday Inn Resort Ixtapa is a mid-range beachfront all-inclusive that gets the family-holiday basics mostly right. We'd choose it for El Palmar Beach, convenient access to shops, and staff who repeatedly earn praise on Tripadvisor, Expedia and Booking.com. Pools, children's activities and evening entertainment give families plenty to do, while guest ratings suggest generally good cleanliness and comfort rather than luxury.

The compromises are food variety, room condition and busy-period queues. Recent guests differ on how much they enjoy the buffets, but repetitive meals come up often enough to matter on longer stays. Some rooms also need maintenance, and Tripadvisor guests describe restaurant waits when the resort fills up. It's a strong pick for an uncomplicated family beach break; we'd skip it for polished rooms, ambitious dining or an adults-only atmosphere.

Best for: families wanting activities and beach access; travelers prioritizing friendly service; easygoing all-inclusive vacations
Watch out for: repetitive buffets; uneven room maintenance; restaurant queues during busy periods
Location: Directly on El Palmar Beach, with shops and restaurants nearby.
Rooms: Comfortable for the class, with appealing ocean-view options, but upkeep varies.
Cleanliness: Generally well rated; isolated room-condition complaints temper an otherwise positive picture.
Service: Friendly, attentive staff are the most consistent strength across guest-review sites.
Amenities: Pools, four listed restaurants, children's activities, evening entertainment and free Wi-Fi.
Fees and surprises: Parking is free; confirm child supplements and room-service inclusions for your booking plan.
