Matosinhos makes sense when the Atlantic is part of the plan, not an optional excursion. You have a substantial beach, surf schools, seafront walks and the fish-restaurants around Rua Heróis de França. The municipal market and working-port setting give it an identity beyond being Porto’s beach suburb. Surfers and seafood-focused travelers have good reasons to sleep here.

- Skip it if
- You have only a short sightseeing visit; You want spontaneous late nights in central Porto

- A serves Matosinhos Sul and Brito Capelo; bus 500 follows the coast and river toward central Porto. From OPO, take E and change to A at Senhora da Hora.
- After dark
- Seafood dinners and seafront bars give it an evening life of its own; choose away from those strips if quiet is the priority.
- Where to look
- Matosinhos Sul station. Start here for beach-led days with a metro connection to Porto; the sand and surf remain the main reason to stay.Avenida Dom Afonso Henriques. A town-center alternative to the seafront, suited to errands and transit rather than having sand directly outside.Avenida Doutor António Macedo. Choose the Exponor side for exhibition-led trips, not as a substitute for a beach or central Porto address.
