#2 of 9 hotels in Vila Nova de Gaia by Axel's take. Vila Nova de Gaia is #5 of 8 places to stay in Porto. The best hotels in Vila Nova de Gaia, ranked · Where to stay in Porto

Axel's take: 9.2/10

Spacious riverside luxury with standout staff, best enjoyed at a slower pace. a five-star riverside suite hotel in converted warehouses, scored for what it is.

The Rebello is a five-star suite hotel in converted warehouses on Gaia’s riverfront, not a beach resort. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want apartment-like space without giving up hotel service. Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests consistently praise the generous rooms, cleanliness and helpful staff; fully equipped kitchens add practical appeal. The rooftop bar and views across to Porto give it a distinctive sense of place.

The main compromise is geography: port-cellar visits are convenient, but exploring Porto means crossing the river. Choose a river-view category if the outlook matters, rather than assuming every room has it. Expedia lists reservation-only pool access and restrictions for children, while a recent guest describes timed sessions. We’d skip it for unrestricted family swimming or a doorstep location in Porto’s old town.

  • Best for: couples seeking river views; families wanting larger suites; port-wine-focused stays

  • Watch out for: River crossing for Porto sightseeing; Pool reservations and children’s restrictions; River views depend on room category

  • Location: Gaia riverfront near port cellars, across the Douro from Porto’s old town; not beachfront.

  • Rooms: Spacious studios and suites with fitted kitchens; layouts, window sizes and views vary.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently strong guest feedback, supported by Booking.com’s high cleanliness rating.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring strength across review sites.

  • Amenities: Rooftop dining, spa, indoor pool, sauna and gym; Expedia lists no pool access for under-sevens and limited children’s hours.

  • Fees and surprises: City tax, parking and pet charges apply; confirm breakfast inclusion and pool reservation rules.
