Gatineau & Lac-Leamy
Quebec-side dining · riverfront museums · Vieux-Hull streets · lakeside parkland · casino evenings
7.4/10
Choose Lac-Leamy’s parkland setting over Laval–Aubry’s bar streets; casino activity and cross-river travel still need consideration.

Gatineau offers two quite different stays. Vieux-Hull puts the Canadian Museum of History, riverfront paths and the restaurants around Laval and Aubry streets within an urban setting. Lac-Leamy, farther north, is about parkland, lakeside recreation and the casino rather than stepping straight into Ottawa’s sightseeing streets. Choose the setting, not simply the Gatineau name.

- a quiet stayluxury travelers
- Skip it if
- Most days revolve around Ottawa-side sights; You want effortless late-night returns without taxis
- Getting around
- Walk Vieux-Hull’s waterfront; STO buses connect with Ottawa, and route 400 serves the Casino Rapibus station. From YOW, a taxi is simplest; public transport combines bus 105, Line 1 and STO.
- After dark
- Laval–Aubry has restaurant and bar activity; Lac-Leamy’s evening action centres on the casino rather than surrounding streets.
- Where to look
- Rue Laurier by the history museum. Choose the riverfront for museum days, park walks and Ottawa views, with cross-river travel still part of the routine.Place Aubry. Pedestrian streets, heritage buildings, cafés and bars suit travelers wanting Hull's evening life close by.Lac-Leamy western shore. Choose the lake setting for recreation and green space rather than an urban sightseeing doorstep.
