Saint Paul is its own city, not an outlying Minneapolis neighborhood. Stay downtown for the Science Museum, Minnesota Children's Museum, historic architecture and hockey or concerts at Grand Casino Arena. Lowertown adds Mears Park, the farmers market, CHS Field and a more residential warehouse-district feel. Families and travelers planning time in both cities have a solid reason to choose it.
- Best for
- familiescouplesmuseums and culture
- Skip it if
- Most of your plans are in Minneapolis; You want continuous late-night street activity
- Getting around
- Walk between downtown museums and Lowertown; take the Green Line to Minneapolis or Route 54 directly to MSP Terminal 1, using the Blue Line between airport terminals if needed.
- After dark
- Arena nights draw crowds toward West 7th, and Lowertown has evening destinations, but other downtown stretches become quiet early.
