Ermita puts Rizal Park and the National Museum buildings into your daily routine; inside Intramuros, General Luna Street connects church courtyards, historic houses and Fort Santiago. Pedestrianized stretches make the heritage core more pleasant to explore. This is the strongest choice when understanding old Manila is the point of your visit.
Choose your address carefully: Ermita is handier for Taft Avenue's trains, while western Intramuros trades that convenience for atmosphere. Heat and busy road crossings still matter between the sights. Skip it if your meetings or evenings revolve around Makati or BGC, or you expect lively streets immediately outside your door late at night.
- Best for
- museums and culturetravelers without a car
- Skip it if
- Most plans are in Makati or BGC; You want late-night activity on your doorstep
- Getting around
- Walk between the park, museums and walls; LRT-1 United Nations serves eastern Ermita and Central Terminal serves eastern Intramuros, farther from Fort Santiago; MNL: Grab/taxi; CRK: P2P bus to TriNoma, then Grab.
- After dark
- Fort Santiago welcomes evening visitors, but nearby museum streets can feel quiet after doors close; do not expect continuous nightlife inside the walls.
- Where to look
- Muralla and Victoria Streets. Start here for walks into Intramuros; suits history-focused days around church courtyards and the General Luna pedestrian corridor.Rizal Park's western edge. Choose the Roxas Boulevard side for park walks and the Ocean Park waterfront; busy road crossings remain part of outings.United Nations LRT station. Stay toward Taft for train access and museum visits; a practical sightseeing base rather than an atmospheric old-city address.
