Axel's take: 8.7/10

Distinctive boutique luxury and warm service, but choose your room carefully. a five-star boutique hotel on Roxas Boulevard, scored for what it is.

Admiral is a five-star boutique hotel on Roxas Boulevard. We'd pick it for its Filipino-Spanish Art Deco character, comfortable rooms and sunset-facing rooftop pool. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, cleanliness and breakfast, making this a strong choice for couples or a Manila staycation with more personality than a standard chain hotel.

Room selection matters: Superior Atrium rooms face inward, while bay-facing rooms offer daylight and views but can catch boulevard traffic noise. The pool is compact rather than resort-sized. Recent feedback also includes uneven check-in and housekeeping follow-through, although positive service reports dominate. We'd skip it if your priorities are absolute quiet, expansive leisure facilities or consistently seamless luxury service.

• Best for: couples on a city break; design-minded travelers; Manila staycations

• Watch out for: inward-facing Superior Atrium rooms; traffic noise in some bay-facing rooms; occasional service delays

• Location: Roxas Boulevard in Malate, with Manila Bay across a busy road and restaurants nearby.

• Rooms: Comfortable, characterful rooms; check the outlook carefully before choosing a category.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across sites, with occasional housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring strength; coordination is less consistently polished.

• Amenities: Compact rooftop pool, bay-view dining, bars, spa and a 24-hour fitness center.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on your package; parking, airport transfers and pets carry extra charges.
