River Park is our easiest all-round choice if you have a car and want uncomplicated evenings rather than an urban neighborhood. Around Blackstone and Nees avenues, the attractions are open-air shopping, restaurants, a large cinema and the Tuesday farmers market. Woodward Park and its Japanese garden are a short drive farther north.
- Best for
- first-time visitorsfamiliesshoppingluxury travelers
- Skip it if
- You want a historic neighborhood; You expect to explore mainly on foot
- Getting around
- Walk within the shopping complex; Q runs along Blackstone and FAX 32/38 serve River Park; FAT is simplest by taxi, although FAX 26 offers a direct, roundabout journey.
- After dark
- Restaurants, films and the Tuesday market provide evening activity; think dinner-and-a-movie rather than a late-night bar district.
- Where to look
- Blackstone Avenue at Herndon. A practical shopping-corridor base for drivers; expect broad roads rather than an evening strolling district.Fresno Street at Herndon. Useful for medical appointments and north Fresno errands, with Kaiser and the River Park corridor nearby.Fresno Street at Fir. Convenient for drivers combining Kaiser visits, restaurants and shopping; choose it for easy routines, not neighborhood character.
