Central Playa del Carmen puts the beach, Quinta Avenida, restaurants and the Cozumel ferry into a genuinely walkable town. Stay near Quinta and Avenida 10 if you want to spend the day out, return independently and choose dinner without a resort schedule. It is our stronger alternative for travelers who find Cancún’s long resort boulevard restrictive.
- Best for
- nightlifefood loverstravelers without a carLGBTQ+ travelers
- Skip it if
- Your sightseeing is mainly in Cancún; You need quiet nights beside the main entertainment streets
- Getting around
- Walk central Playa; ADO serves the Quinta Avenida terminal directly from CUN, and ferries leave downtown for Cozumel. The Tren Maya station requires a road connection.
- After dark
- Quinta stays animated late, with particularly loud club activity around Calle 12; a few blocks of separation can make a substantial difference.
