North Hotel Zone (Playa Langosta & Playa Tortugas)
bay-facing beaches · family swimming · excursion piers · easy bus outings
6.5/10
The easiest family beach base, without complete resort isolation.
Sheltered beaches, strong character and good hotels put it first overall, despite a thin choice of places within a short walk.

The north-facing stretch of Boulevard Kukulcán around Playa Langosta and Playa Tortugas is our strongest family pick. Its bay-facing beaches generally have gentler water than the exposed eastern shore, while buses keep downtown and the rest of the Hotel Zone accessible. Tortugas also has an Isla Mujeres ferry departure point.
Calmer water does not mean an empty shoreline: excursion departures and public-beach visitors bring daytime activity. Nor is this a compact restaurant district; choose your address around the places you will actually use. Stay here for straightforward beach days with children, but choose Punta Cancún instead if walking to clubs is essential.
- Best for
- familiesfirst-time visitors
- Skip it if
- You want nightclubs outside your door; You expect a dense, walkable dining district
- Getting around
- R1/R2 run along Kukulcán; walk locally and use buses between beaches. From CUN, take a transfer or ADO downtown followed by a Hotel Zone bus.
- After dark
- Usually more subdued than Punta Cancún, though visitors note that the particular resort matters more than the broad beach label.
