Beacon Hill is the Boston of brick sidewalks, gas lamps and closely packed historic houses. Charles Street is the practical spine for browsing and dinner, while the State House and Black Heritage Trail add more than postcard scenery. Boston Common and the Public Garden put generous green space beside a very central neighborhood.
- Best for
- couplesfamiliesa quiet stay
- Skip it if
- Hills and uneven paving are a problem; Late-night entertainment is the priority
- Getting around
- Red Line at Charles/MGH and Park Street, Green at Park Street; walk to Back Bay and downtown. From BOS, use the terminal shuttle and Blue Line to Bowdoin or Government Center; no train reaches the terminals directly.
- After dark
- Expect dinner activity around Charles Street rather than a club district, with a more residential feel uphill.
