The Whitney is a polished, 65-room boutique hotel in Beacon Hill, and we'd put it high on the list for travelers who prefer personal service to big-hotel bustle. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, spotless rooms and comfortable beds. Charles Street's shops, the river paths and Charles/MGH station make this an excellent base for exploring Boston without a car. Peregrine restaurant and the courtyard add appeal without making the place feel sprawling.

The trade-offs are mostly practical: some guests report street, ambulance or upstairs noise, and the fitness studio is small. Light sleepers should request a quieter room rather than assume every outlook is peaceful. There's also a daily amenity fee, plus separate valet and pet charges.
