Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong pick for poolside character, less so for quiet or walkability. A stylish mid-range motor lodge beside I-10, scored for what it is.

The Tuxon is a revamped mid-range motor lodge, not a full-service resort, and it's a strong pick for travelers who want character without luxury expectations. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful staff and the pool; Tripadvisor and Booking.com also show strong cleanliness scores. The desert-modern styling, comfortable beds and lively poolside bar give it more personality than a standard roadside stop. Free parking adds practical value.

The trade-offs are compact rooms and a freeway-side location better suited to driving than strolling downtown. Booking.com guests flag traffic noise, while Tripadvisor reports show pool events can be intrusive, too. Ask about scheduled parties and request a room away from the pool and freeway. We'd skip it for a reliably quiet retreat or a walk-everywhere city break.

• Best for: Couples who enjoy a social pool scene; Road-trippers seeking character; Travelers exploring Tucson by car

• Watch out for: Freeway noise and amplified pool events; Compact rooms; No elevator; request ground-floor access if needed

• Location: Convenient to I-10 and a short drive downtown, but not an ideal walking base.

• Rooms: Updated, compact rooms with comfortable beds and walk-in showers; noise varies by position.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor; IHG lists limited housekeeping.

• Service: Recent guests repeatedly praise friendly, helpful front-desk and bar staff.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, poolside restaurant and bar, gym, complimentary bikes and EV charging.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; breakfast generally costs extra unless included, and dogs incur a fee and deposit.
