Axel's take: 8.8/10
A characterful motel with excellent basics, best enjoyed with a car. An art-filled, renovated 3-star roadside motel, scored for what it is.
Hotel McCoy is a renovated 3-star roadside motel that delivers more personality than the usual highway stop. We'd pick it for clean, comfortable rooms, welcoming staff and good value—not upscale polish. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the housekeeping, beds and playful local artwork. The heated saltwater pool, games, complimentary welcome drink and free room-front parking give you reasons to linger rather than simply sleep and leave.
The main compromise is the setting: convenient for interstate access, but poorly suited to exploring restaurants and shops on foot. Highway noise bothers some guests, although others report quiet rooms. Standard queens are compact, and the included breakfast centers on oatmeal, fruit and Pop-Tarts rather than a substantial hot buffet. It's a strong choice for road-trippers and dog owners; we'd skip it for a walkable downtown stay or full-service luxury.
