Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong practical pick for spacious rooms, friendly staff and breakfast, despite some wear. a no-frills, all-suite chain hotel near Tucson Mall, scored for what it is.

This no-frills, all-suite Holiday Inn Express is a strong pick for travelers who want space and useful basics rather than a downtown address. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff; breakfast also earns plenty of compliments. Suites have microwaves and mini-fridges, while included parking and Wi-Fi make it a practical base for families and drivers visiting Tucson.

The main compromise is condition: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests mention rooms needing refreshing, with some worn furnishings and bathroom finishes. Pool feedback is mixed, including a few recent complaints about pool or hot-tub cleanliness, so check conditions if swimming is central to your plans. We'd choose it for a straightforward, comfortable stay near shopping, but skip it for polished interiors or a walkable downtown weekend.

• Best for: families wanting extra room; drivers exploring Tucson; shopping and short business stays

• Watch out for: some dated furnishings and bathroom finishes; mixed pool and hot-tub upkeep reports; not a downtown walking base

• Location: Near Tucson Mall, restaurants and Rillito River Park; better suited to drivers than downtown sightseeing on foot.

• Rooms: Spacious suites with microwaves and mini-fridges; comfortable beds draw praise, but some finishes show wear.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest feedback on room cleanliness, with a few recent pool and hot-tub complaints.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk and breakfast staff are recurring strengths across review sites.

• Amenities: Free hot breakfast and Wi-Fi, outdoor pool with whirlpool, and fitness center; IHG confirms no on-site restaurant.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is complimentary; no airport or local shuttle, and pets are not accepted.
