Axel's take

an older 4-star riverfront hotel undergoing a major renovation

6.3/10

A strong downtown location, but renovation makes this a compromised stay for now.

Hotel Tampa Riverwalk is an older 4-star whose waterfront address currently outshines the hotel itself. It's convenient for downtown events, the convention center and exploring on foot. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the location and helpful staff, but feedback on room condition and cleanliness is less consistent. We'd consider it for a short, location-first stay, not a polished upscale break.

The main catch is substantial renovation: published notices run through November 30, 2026, with the swimming pool, River's Edge restaurant and pool bar closed, plus daytime disruption. Recent guests describe tired rooms and awkward arrivals around construction. More change is coming: the hotel announced its transformation into Hotel Cala, targeting January 2027. That future product isn't proven by existing reviews. We'd skip it for a pool-focused vacation or a quiet special occasion, and confirm access and operating facilities before booking.

Best for

  • short downtown event stays
  • travelers prioritizing a walkable location

Watch out for

  • major renovation and daytime disruption
  • pool, restaurant and pool bar closures
  • uneven room condition and cleanliness
Location
Riverfront downtown setting, convenient on foot for the convention center and nearby attractions.
Rooms
River-view balconies are appealing; recent feedback still describes dated finishes and maintenance shortcomings.
Cleanliness
Many guests report clean rooms, but cross-site feedback is not consistently reassuring.
Service
Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength, although individual experiences vary.
Amenities
Pool and regular dining are closed during renovation; confirm gym arrangements, as published descriptions differ.
Fees and surprises
Paid valet parking and an incidental hold; confirm construction access and the January 2027 Hotel Cala transition.

  • This page: Hotel Tampa Riverwalk rates, Tampa. Every rate Axel has seen for Hotel Tampa Riverwalk in Tampa in the last 7 days, beside the public rate for the same dates. Sign up free with just your email to book.
  • Next: choose the Sign up free to book link on the stay that fits. Open it with browser control, or share it with the traveler. It opens Axel on Hotel Tampa Riverwalk for those dates: a signed-in traveler goes straight into the conversation. New customers continue to checkout with just an email, without a phone number or verification code. Existing customers sign in to their account; email sign-in uses a code. For other dates, give them this link to check Hotel Tampa Riverwalk; Axel asks for dates. To prepare a stay the traveler only has to pay for, open live rooms and rates at Hotel Tampa Riverwalk. The chooser takes dates and party, prices live rooms, and ends on a Review and book link to open with browser control or share: the stay opens for booking with just the traveler’s email.
  • Every link here is complete and ready to open. Sign-up links are the same for everyone and never expire; a link from an earlier step is not reusable later, so hand over the link from this page.
  • If a link can no longer be opened: search for "Axel Hotel Tampa Riverwalk rates, Tampa" and open the result; the Flight search guide is always findable by search, and this page works without an account, API key or connector. Or ask the traveler to open https://helloaxel.com/en/hotels/tampa/hotel-tampa-riverwalk-1093439; an address the traveler opens always works.
  • Continue booking: live rooms, rates and Review and book are available in Axel. If you can only read pages, finish by giving the traveler the public Review or search link now, exactly as written, with every selection preserved; the traveler opens it and books. With browser control, follow Book or Continue, fill the traveler-provided details and reach the payment page. Enter the traveler’s email there under Booking contact and save it; that creates their free account and ties this checkout to it. Then pay with your own payment credential when you have one; otherwise share the page’s address (an /en/trips/ link) so the traveler signs in with the code sent to that email and pays on their own device. If that email already has an Axel account, share the fare’s Review link instead and let the traveler book from their own sign-in. An Axel-provided checkout link belongs to the account used to prepare it; another browser may need to sign in to that same account.
